You can start by scheduling a free 15-minute consultation.

Stress, Urge, Or Mixed Urinary Incontinence?

One of the first steps we start with during your free 15-minute virtual consultation at Osteopathic Integrative Medicine is to determine the severity of your incontinence. We also will verify if you have stress urinary incontinence (leaking urine with coughing, sneezing, etc.) versus urge incontinence (a strong urge to urinate without delay). Commonly, there can be a combination of both called “mixed incontinence.” Other things we have to take into account are estrogen levels, medical history, and whether you’ve had surgery for a sling before. The one factor that would disqualify you from our treatment is if you have a pacemaker so be sure to disclose that information.

If you are a good candidate, our doctor will recommend the best course of action for you. That may mean starting with topical estrogen or scheduling the Viveve treatment.

Why Viveve For Stress Urinary Incontinence?

Due to cryogen-cooling technology, Viveve can heat significantly deeper than competitors getting the results in one session that they need multiple sessions. Why choose Viveve over other ablative laser and radiofrequency options such as Mona Lisa, Thermiva, Femilift? All of these treatments work by stimulating collagen production of the vaginal wall. By increasing the collagen thickness, the integrity of the vaginal wall is restored and provides structural integrity to the urethra.

During treatments, a probe is inserted into the vagina that heats the vaginal wall tissue to stimulate collagen production. To avoid burning the wall of the vagina, the probe needs to constantly be moved. This limits how deep the probe can heat. The constant motion can be uncomfortable to the patient and can make uniform heating more challenging.

The Viveve treatment uses unique cryogen-cooling technology coupled with its radiofrequency technology. This technology cools at the vaginal wall surface while being able to heat significantly deeper. This avoids the need for constant motion making the experience for the patient better. Finally, because it can cool deeper, Viveve achieves in one session what takes other competitors multiple sessions.

Viveve is a one-session treatment, works more powerfully, and can be more cost-effective. There is no downtime and studies have shown it is safe. The drawback to the Viveve treatment, and all other similar treatments, is that they can take 30 days or more for a noticeable change with the full effect taking up to 6 months. As part of the Viveve treatment, we offer a solution for a faster effect as well.

Attain For Pelvic Floor Strength

The Attain Device is one part of the Viveve Solutions that strengthens the pelvic floor muscles to stop urinary incontinence. The Viveve device works by restoring the integrity of the vaginal wall. It does not work by strengthening the pelvic floor, which can also be effective in dealing with stress urinary incontinence, urge, and mixed incontinence. Included as part of the Viveve Solutions treatment is the Attain device.

The Attain device works to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles in a done-for-you way from the privacy of your own home. It ensures that you strengthen the right muscles for the right amount of time. The device comes with instructions and is very simple to use. It is also safe and is FDA-cleared.

Why We Use The Viveve Solutions At Osteopathic Integrative Medicine

In our practice, where we deal with a lot of back pain, we have noticed that urinary incontinence is really a part of a bigger problem. By restoring the wall of the vagina and strengthening the pelvic floor, the core is often re-established. Patients have noticed feeling like their posture improved in addition to the improved function of their hip flexors and other core muscles. We believe this to take place by normalizing a body-wide connective tissue called “fascia.”
